What is copywriting?

Copywriting is simply the art of writing text for specific purposes that are not literary. Think Mad Men or newspaper journalists. In our case, we write both technical and non-technical content for businesses. Our clients use what we produce in commercial documents like sales decks, whitepapers, websites and social media posts. Our goal is to provide you with commercial messaging that resonates with your target audience. To do that, we take the time to make sure both you and our team actually know who that target audience is, what challenges they face and what they might be looking to hear from and new supplier. Once we understand that, we start to craft content.

Why invest in writing?

Good copy is table stakes to get in the (business development) game. Astoundly, even today bad writing does get past the agency and get published. This might be driven in part by easy access to automation tools – machine translation can produce erroneous or misleading translations, and ChatGPT-style text generation tools can and do produce muddled, empty and uncompelling speech.

However it is that bad writing gets delivered as agency content, it is not acceptable for any self-respecting business, and could turn off vast parts of your audience. As a rule of thumb, we figure about 40% of an audience cares about good presentation, such as lack of grammatical errors, proper punctuation and capitalization, spelling errors and proper sentence structure. Are you willing to lose that much of your target market out of the starting gates?
